RAZOR MARK Texas and Lagos-bred poet and hip hop artist, RazorMarks, is inarguably the most exciting thing going on in Gospel music right now with records that are soul-drenched nostalgic masterpieces. He has a catalogue that's about to deliver a consistent array of chart-topping inspirational music for listeners of every age, mood and socio-economic status.
Razor started writing music at the age of ten, after
watching a music video from veteran juju artiste, Sunny Ade. He lists
Bob Marley, Tupac, and Kirk Franklin as some of his biggest musical
influences. He says, “With Bob Marley and Tupac, I admire how their
music connected with individuals, and how it inspired their generation.
Kirk’s music is powerful and it connects with folks in the gospel world
and the secular world, a major feat.”
Razor was studying Law at the University of Lagos,
but discontinued his law program to pursue his musical dreams. This
decision was birthed from the loss of his father. On this topic, he
says, "Losing my father awakened me to the brevity of life. I had to
jump on the train to my destiny immediately. It's been a journey of
faith."
His desire is to see gospel music become mainstream.
“Gospel music needs to spread its tentacles and reach more people. We
have the greatest message, and more people need to hear it and be
inspired by it.”, he says. He has a vision for things, for example, to
bring live performances to the game and re-create music like they did
back in the day. He is not afraid to think differently and to take a
chance.
Songs on his album focus on walking with God while
trying to be real. His new single titled I Need You More featuring Tosin
is a tip of the iceberg. Razor is one of the precious few rappers that
possess a rare ability to entertain and enlighten with his music all at
the same time. According to Radio personality, Femi Da Silva, "His songs
make me feel that I have no need for any Wyclef, Eminem or even Tupac
with his rap. His rap gives me Christian joy”.
