EYES IN MY MEMORY {For Somtinde Audu}

When I close my eyes I see little whirls of breeze
Spinning softly in the chill hamartan of my childhood
How in the cusp of this brownness I grew and learnt to sin. . .
I’m a fallen angel now, hiding amidst the grey sterility of words

In my mind I raise a chalice for you to drink of something
Glimpsed briefly in the deep mines of your feather-soft eyes
So that drunken of it we would unravel the clothes of convention
And touch with tongues the fragile skin of a truth that disturbs no one

But you turn away from the treason of my opening eye
The distance of dreams grows vast; the whirling breeze is stilled,
The chalice of language is broken and all that remains in my hand -
Is the memory of your eyes, and the remembered music of your laughter.
- Ra.

BLOG NEWS: Introducing The Social Media And Governance (SMAG) Project - Take part & Have your say!

The SMAG project seeks to explore the impact of social media on the April 2011 elections in Nigeria focusing specifically on the Presidential elections as a case study and Twitter as the social media tool.
Nigeria held her 2011 elections in April 2011, with the National Assembly elections on the 9th, the Presidential on the 16th and the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections on the 26th. The country ‘officially’ utilized social media tools for the elections for the first in its political history and this project is centered on that.
You are invited to join the #SMAG conference on Twitter on the 5th of August 2011, starting at noon and running till 4pm. It is your platform to express your views on the elections as enhanced/derailed by social media, and make projections for future use.

The more we are, the more fruitful and far reaching the discussion! Have your say!
Date: 5th August (Friday)
Venue: Twitter!

THE EX FILES BY PHATIEI

Out with friends the other day, we happened to stumble upon the topic of exes and at a point I realized we hadn't had any conversation that day as thrilling as the who-dated-who conversation. As in the topic kept us happy and laughing for hours....
A weird ex/fling/snog/whatever can leave an intoxicating smudge on ones social résumé. When you're married or in a long term relationship, or just a lil bit older and wiser, that unfortunate association you once enjoyed suddenly seems a bit......... Well, unbelievable. I mean your "now" self wouldn't even dream of dating that person. Hell, your now self may not even walk across the road to say hello to them. In my opinion, the "embarrassing" ex is just a lil too revealing of your true self, showing a side of your character you might want to keep hidden- which is basically what makes it such a rich seam of discussion.

There are just soooo many ways to slip up....
The Flashy Ex- you know, the arm candy that looked real good at events and stuff but less so to take home to meet Mama.
The Slippery Ex- that couldn't make plans any further than 24hrs in advance.  They think texting/calling is a pain. Their priorities were in stone and clearly but sadly, you weren't one of them.
The Obnoxious Ex- the insufferable/ loathsome ones that had no idea there was a whole world outside their ass holes... *rme*
The Judgemental Ex- the holier-than-thou's always on complain mode. The last thing you need is a paragon of perfection nagging you at every available moment.
The Loose-Lipped Ex- the ones who are always happy to chat about you and your entire relationship to anyone and everyone that will listen. Blabbermouth.
The Clueless Ex- that never heard of the word "space". I mean if you must smother me, at least be a darling and make it quick now, grab a pillow or something.
The Party Ex- that believes a party aint a party till you puke your guts out. They're never ashamed of their behaviour the night before cos........well they can't remember it. They were there for a good time.
The Cheap Ex- that always keeps a pen handy to make sure the cost of dates and stuff are always split; 50/50 or may even point out you ate more so..... 40/60 perhaps??
The Questionable Ex- that maps out your entire family tree together after the first week. O_O *cutting out*
The Insecure Ex- that are quite the charmers at first but soon the sweet smell of their perfume starts to reek of desperation. They start to need constant reassurance that you aren't seeing anyone else, they say your friends don't like them but do nothing to win them over. *whew*

which can you relate to and which do you think you fall under?? C'mon don't be shy people, it’s my post so I get a free pass ;)

UNREQUITED LOVE... BY DAIBAH

"...I am a girl who prides herself of being in control of all my affairs, duties and obligations. Suddenly I feel so challenged and confused. My heart feels like a lightning bolt is passing through it constantly. And it all started with one look and a single touch from a boy I have always known. He has always been there, always been present but suddenly I seem to be seeing him for the first time. My heart literally stopped for a second and I was breathless. He whispered some words in his ever gentle voice but I couldn't hear a word he was saying because I could only see his lips move but I couldn't hear a word he uttered. He gently touched my shoulders to jolt me out of my silent reverie. He repeated the words he was saying "I am getting married”, that was when my heart stopped again but for a full minute this time. I had to smile with tears in my eyes and reply "I am happy for you dear”. I always knew I liked him but I realized I loved him when it was too late. Never miss a chance on Love for someday you may take that chance and it will be too late.
